Key Responsibilities

  • Perform various welding processes including MIG, TIG, Stick (SMAW), and Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) on diverse materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
  • Read and accurately interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and welding symbols to determine specifications and dimensions.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain welding equipment, including welders, grinders, and other tools of the trade.
  • Inspect welds for quality, integrity, and adherence to specifications, utilizing measuring instruments and visual inspection techniques.
  • Prepare materials for welding by grinding, cutting, and cleaning surfaces to ensure proper adhesion and structural integrity.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, company policies, and provincial regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve welding issues, adjusting techniques and equipment as necessary to achieve desired results.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other tradespersons to ensure project timelines and quality standards are met.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on welding equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Document work completed, materials used, and any issues encountered.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of verifiable experience as a professional Welder.
  • Proficiency in multiple welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick, FCAW).
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols.
  • Strong understanding of welding metallurgy and material properties.
  • Excellent manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to workplace safety practices and procedures.
  • Physical stamina and ability to perform demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials and working in various positions.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possession of a recognized trade qualification or diploma in Welding.
  • Valid CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau) certifications or equivalent international certifications.
  • Experience with specialized welding techniques or exotic materials.
  • Previous experience working in heavy industrial, manufacturing, or shipbuilding environments.
  • Familiarity with quality control procedures and non-destructive testing (NDT) methods.
  • Ability to operate forklifts, overhead cranes, or other material handling equipment.
