Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking enthusiastic, compassionate, and energetic Summer Camp Counselors to join our partnered programs in Downtown Burnsville. This seasonal role offers a unique opportunity to positively impact the lives of young campers, guiding them through a summer filled with adventure, learning, and fun. As a Camp Counselor, you will be the heart of the summer experience, fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where every child feels valued and inspired.

Your days will be vibrant and varied, ranging from leading creative arts and crafts sessions to orchestrating exciting outdoor games, team-building challenges, and educational activities. We’re looking for individuals who can bring boundless energy, patience, and a genuine love for working with children. You’ll be responsible for supervising groups of campers, ensuring their safety during all activities, and serving as a positive role model. This role goes beyond supervision; it’s about mentorship, encouraging personal growth, teaching new skills, and facilitating memorable experiences that campers will cherish for years to come. Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and ensure the safety of campers (typically ages 5-12) during all camp activities, including games, crafts, swimming, and field trips.
  • Plan, prepare, and lead engaging and age-appropriate activities that promote creativity, teamwork, and physical activity.
  • Act as a positive role model, mentor, and leader, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all campers.
  • Effectively communicate with campers, parents/guardians, and fellow staff members regarding daily activities, camper progress, and any concerns.
  • Assist with basic first aid and respond appropriately to emergencies, following established camp protocols.
  • Manage group dynamics and behavior, employing positive reinforcement and conflict resolution techniques.
  • Participate actively in staff training sessions and daily briefings to ensure consistent program delivery and safety standards.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe camp facility and equipment.
  • Encourage camper participation and enthusiasm in all camp programs and special events.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience working with children in a recreational, educational, or supervisory capacity.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children and adults.
  • High level of energy, enthusiasm, and a positive, patient demeanor.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing situations.
  • Demonstrated responsibility, reliability, and maturity.
  • Ability to commit to the full duration of the summer camp season.
  • Basic knowledge of first aid or willingness to be certified.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Previous experience as a camp counselor or in a similar youth leadership role.
  • Specialized skills in areas such as sports, arts and crafts, music, environmental education, or outdoor recreation.
  • Pursuing or completed a degree in Education, Recreation, Child Development, or a related field.
