Job Description

Career.zycto is excited to be recruiting dedicated and adaptable Cover Supervisors to support our partner schools across the vibrant Toxteth area of Liverpool. This is an exceptional opportunity for individuals passionate about education to gain valuable classroom experience or to continue their journey in supporting student development in a flexible capacity. As a Cover Supervisor, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the continuity of learning by overseeing classes during the short-term absence of a teacher. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure students complete pre-set work, manage classroom behaviour effectively, and create a positive and productive learning environment. We are looking for individuals who can quickly build rapport with students, uphold school policies, and inspire engagement across various subjects and age groups. This flexible schedule offers the perfect blend of professional engagement and personal freedom, ideal for those seeking to balance other commitments or explore different educational settings. Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise classes during the short-term absence of a teacher, ensuring students remain on task with pre-set work.
  • Manage classroom behaviour effectively according to school policies, promoting a respectful and focused learning environment.
  • Build positive relationships with students, providing encouragement and support as they complete their work.
  • Communicate effectively with school staff regarding student progress, behaviour, or any incidents.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students under supervision.
  • Adhere strictly to school safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • Be punctual and reliable, ready to respond to ad-hoc requests for cover.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance and any relevant classroom information.

Required Skills

  • Strong classroom management and behaviour management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to quickly build rapport with young people.
  • Adaptability and resilience in various classroom settings.
  • Proactive and organised approach to work.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles.
  • Basic IT literacy for attendance systems and resources.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a school or educational setting (e.g., teaching assistant, youth worker, tutor).
  • A relevant degree or Level 3 qualification in Education or a related field.
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum across different key stages.
  • First Aid qualification (desirable).
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
