Job Description
We are actively seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Part-Time Track and Field Coach to join our dynamic team in Blue Springs, Missouri. This pivotal role involves guiding student-athletes in developing their full potential across various track and field disciplines. You will play an instrumental part in fostering a positive, disciplined, and high-performance environment, emphasizing skill development, sportsmanship, and personal growth. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundational knowledge of track and field techniques, rules, and safety protocols, coupled with a genuine passion for youth development.
As a coach, you will be responsible for planning and executing effective training sessions, both individually and for groups, tailored to different skill levels and event specialties. This includes teaching fundamental techniques in sprinting, jumping, throwing, and distance running, as well as advanced strategies. You’ll assess athlete performance, provide constructive feedback, and motivate participants to achieve their personal bests. Beyond technical instruction, this role involves cultivating a supportive team culture, promoting healthy habits, and instilling values such as perseverance, teamwork, and respect. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive training plans and practice schedules for track and field athletes.
- Instruct athletes in fundamental and advanced techniques for various track and field events (e.g., sprints, hurdles, throws, jumps, distance running).
- Monitor athlete performance, provide individualized feedback, and make adjustments to training as needed.
- Ensure athlete safety by adhering to all relevant rules, regulations, and safety guidelines.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and disciplined team environment.
- Promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, and ethical conduct among all athletes.
- Assist with event setup, organization, and breakdown during practices and competitions.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and administrative staff regarding schedules, performance, and program updates.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, performance metrics, and equipment inventory.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with coaching techniques and best practices.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in coaching or competing in track and field.
- Strong understanding of track and field rules, techniques, and safety procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire athletes of diverse ages and skill levels.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and organize effective practice sessions.
- First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as dictated by practice and competition schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or a related field.
- USA Track & Field (USATF) coaching certification or equivalent.
- Experience working with youth or high school-aged athletes.
- Knowledge of strength and conditioning principles for track and field athletes.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
