Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Fish and Wildlife Inspector to join our vital team in the Country Club Plaza area of Kansas City. This full-time role offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the protection of fish, wildlife, and their habitats, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. As an Inspector, you will be on the front lines, conducting investigations, performing inspections, and enforcing laws designed to conserve our precious ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough investigations into violations of fish and wildlife laws and regulations, including poaching, illegal hunting/fishing, and habitat destruction.
  • Perform routine and specialized inspections of commercial and recreational operations, including game farms, fishing charters, markets, and wildlife rehabilitation centers, to ensure compliance.
  • Enforce federal, state, and local statutes, issue citations, and prepare detailed reports for legal proceedings.
  • Collect and preserve evidence, interview witnesses and suspects, and present findings to prosecutors and courts.
  • Patrol designated areas, including remote wilderness, waterways, and urban environments, to monitor wildlife activities and detect illegal actions.
  • Educate the public and stakeholders on wildlife conservation, regulations, and safe practices.
  • Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies, environmental organizations, and community groups.
  • Respond to wildlife emergencies, including injured animals or public safety concerns involving wildlife.
  • Maintain and operate specialized equipment, including vehicles, boats, firearms, and investigative tools.
  • Prepare comprehensive written reports, maintain accurate records, and manage case files efficiently.

Required Skills

  • Proven knowledge of federal and state fish and wildlife laws, regulations, and enforcement procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting investigations, collecting evidence, and interviewing subjects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain composure, and act decisively in critical situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for reporting, testimony, and public interaction.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and data entry.
  • Physical fitness and ability to work in various outdoor conditions and terrains, including irregular hours.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate a variety of vehicles.
  • Completion of a recognized law enforcement academy or equivalent training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Management, Criminal Justice, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Previous experience as a Fish and Wildlife Officer, Game Warden, or similar regulatory enforcement role.
  • Certifications in specialized investigative techniques (e.g., forensics, undercover operations).
  • Familiarity with GIS mapping software and wildlife tracking technologies.
  • Experience with public outreach and educational programs related to conservation.
