As an Environmental Field Technician, you will be on the front lines, contributing directly to critical environmental projects across a variety of sectors, from infrastructure development to ecological conservation.

Your day-to-day will be dynamic and engaging, primarily involving fieldwork at various sites throughout Bristol and the surrounding regions. You will be instrumental in collecting vital environmental data, performing precise sampling of soil, water, and air, and assisting with site assessments under the guidance of experienced environmental scientists and project managers. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental sampling of soil, groundwater, surface water, and air following established protocols.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain various field instruments and equipment (e.g., pH meters, conductivity meters, GPS units).
  • Accurately record field data, observations, and measurements in field logbooks, forms, and digital devices.
  • Assist senior technicians and scientists with site investigations, surveys, and monitoring programs.
  • Transport equipment, supplies, and samples to and from project sites.
  • Adhere strictly to all company health and safety procedures and site-specific safety plans.
  • Perform basic data entry and assist with preliminary report preparation as required.
  • Learn and apply environmental regulations and best practices relevant to project activities.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and site personnel.

Required Skills

  • Strong interest and passion for environmental science and sustainability.
  • Ability to work effectively outdoors in various weather conditions and challenging terrain.
  • Good physical fitness and ability to lift and carry equipment (up to 20kg).
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data collection and record-keeping.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
  • Valid UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel to project sites.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proactive attitude and willingness to learn new skills and methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A-Levels or equivalent in a science-related discipline (e.g., Environmental Science, Geography, Biology, Chemistry).
  • Vocational training or a relevant higher education qualification (e.g., HNC, HND, Bachelor's degree) in Environmental Science, Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
  • Previous practical experience in fieldwork, even from academic projects or volunteering.
  • Knowledge of basic health and safety principles.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Basic understanding of GIS software.
