Key Responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of laboratory tests including hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and urinalysis.
- Collect and process patient samples (e.g., blood, urine, tissues) adhering to strict protocols.
- Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment, ensuring optimal performance and accuracy.
- Document and report test results accurately and in a timely manner.
- Perform quality control checks and troubleshoot technical issues with instrumentation.
- Adhere to all safety regulations, infection control policies, and laboratory accreditation standards.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training initiatives.
Required Skills
- Associate's Degree or Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience as a Medical Technician or Medical Laboratory Assistant.
- Proficiency in performing phlebotomy and various laboratory procedures.
- Strong understanding of laboratory quality control and assurance practices.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and analysis.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Eligibility or willingness to obtain professional registration with a recognized Canadian regulatory body (e.g., CMLTO, CSMLS or provincial equivalent).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field.
- Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and electronic health records (EHR).
- Certification from the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
- Previous experience in a Canadian healthcare setting.
