Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, repair, and maintain dies, fixtures, and tooling used in the manufacturing of automotive parts.
  • Operate a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and EDM equipment to fabricate and modify tooling components.
  • Read and interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and CAD models (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  • Perform precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM) to ensure dimensional accuracy.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose tooling problems, implementing effective solutions to minimize downtime and optimize production efficiency.
  • Collaborate with engineers and production staff on design improvements and process optimization for new and existing tools.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on tooling and equipment to extend lifespan and ensure reliable operation.
  • Maintain accurate records of tool maintenance, repairs, and modifications.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and quality control standards, including OSHA regulations.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in operating manual and CNC machining equipment (e.g., Haas, Fanuc).
  • Expertise in precision measurement techniques and tools (e.g., CMM, optical comparators).
  • Strong understanding of metallurgy and material properties (e.g., tool steels, aluminum alloys).
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Experience with various welding techniques (TIG, MIG, Stick) for repair and modification.
  • Solid problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for intricate mechanical issues.
  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or vocational training in Tool and Die Making.
  • CAD/CAM software proficiency (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam, AutoCAD, Catia).
  • Experience with progressive dies and stamping operations in an automotive setting.
  • Prior experience in ISO/TS or IATF quality systems environments.
  • Journeyman Tool and Die Maker certification.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
