Job Description

You’ll be trained on the job by experienced professionals, learning to operate and calibrate sophisticated tools such as CMMs (Coordinate Measuring Machines), optical comparators, calipers, micrometers, and various gauges. You’ll be involved in inspecting parts, documenting measurements, analyzing data, and troubleshooting measurement issues, all while maintaining rigorous quality standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform dimensional inspections of components and assemblies using a variety of metrology equipment, including CMMs, optical comparators, calipers, micrometers, and bore gauges.
  • Calibrate and maintain measurement tools and equipment according to established procedures and schedules.
  • Document inspection results accurately, interpret engineering drawings and specifications, and report any discrepancies.
  • Assist in the development and improvement of measurement processes and techniques.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to identify and resolve quality-related issues.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment in the metrology lab.
  • Learn and apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles.
  • Participate in training and continuous learning initiatives to enhance technical skills.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and precision.
  • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and blueprints (basic understanding).
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in Metrology, Quality Control, Machining, or a related technical field.
  • Prior experience (even academic or hobbyist) with precision measurement tools.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  • Basic understanding of ISO 9001 or other quality management systems.
  • Exposure to statistical process control (SPC) concepts.
