Job Description
Are you a meticulous and innovative Microbiologist eager to contribute to critical scientific advancements? Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated Full-Time Microbiologist to join one of our esteemed client organizations within Virginia. The successful candidate will be instrumental in conducting experiments, analyzing samples, and interpreting data to ensure the safety, efficacy, and quality of various products, from pharmaceuticals and medical devices to food and environmental samples. You will be expected to maintain strict adherence to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and other regulatory guidelines, ensuring the highest standards of accuracy and reliability in all experimental work. Your daily tasks will involve preparing media, culturing microorganisms, performing sterility testing, microbial limits testing, endotoxin testing, and environmental monitoring, along with identifying microorganisms using both traditional and rapid methods.
This role requires a keen eye for detail, a strong understanding of microbial physiology and molecular biology techniques, and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues effectively. You will work with cutting-edge equipment and methodologies, including PCR, qPCR, culturing, microscopy, spectrophotometry, and various biochemical and immunological assays. Proficiency in aseptic techniques is paramount. Beyond the benchwork, you will be responsible for meticulously documenting all experimental procedures and results, preparing comprehensive reports, and presenting findings to internal teams.
Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including chemists, engineers, and quality assurance specialists, will be a key aspect of your role, requiring excellent communication and teamwork skills. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialized microbiological testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
- Conduct environmental monitoring of manufacturing facilities and laboratory areas.
- Isolate, identify, and characterize microorganisms using various microbiological and molecular techniques (e.g., culturing, microscopy, PCR, API strips).
- Execute sterility testing, microbial limits testing, endotoxin testing, and bioburden assays.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all experiments, analyses, and results in accordance with GLP/GMP.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
- Participate in the development, optimization, and validation of new microbiological test methods.
- Analyze and interpret data, prepare technical reports, and present findings to project teams.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, quality standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, USP, ISO).
- Assist in troubleshooting laboratory issues and support investigations into out-of-specification results.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in aseptic techniques
- Strong knowledge of microbiology principles, including bacteriology, mycology, and virology
- Experience with various microbiological assays (e.g., sterility, microbial limits, endotoxin)
- Familiarity with molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, qPCR)
- Excellent data analysis, interpretation, and technical writing skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced laboratory environment

Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related scientific field
- Experience in a regulated industry (e.g., pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, food safety)
- Knowledge of LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System)
- Experience with instrument calibration and maintenance
- Understanding of statistical analysis for microbiological data
