Key Responsibilities

  • Assist lead mastering engineers during sessions, including setup and teardown of equipment.
  • Manage and organize audio files, session data, and project assets, ensuring proper naming conventions and backup protocols.
  • Perform initial quality control checks on source material and master files for technical errors, clicks, pops, and inconsistencies.
  • Prepare session files for mastering, including gain staging, basic editing, and minor noise reduction as instructed.
  • Maintain studio equipment, ensuring all gear is in optimal working condition and reporting any malfunctions.
  • Support administrative tasks such as scheduling, client communication, and documentation.
  • Learn and apply signal processing techniques under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Stay informed about current audio technologies, software updates, and industry best practices.
  • Archive completed projects and manage digital asset libraries efficiently.

Required Skills

  • Foundational knowledge of digital audio workstations (DAWs) such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro X, Ableton Live, or Studio One.
  • Strong active listening skills with an ability to identify subtle audio nuances and imperfections.
  • Excellent organizational and file management abilities.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Basic understanding of audio theory, signal flow, and acoustics.
  • Proficiency in basic computer operations and office software.
  • Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and workflows.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering, Music Production, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with mastering-specific software and plugins (e.g., Izotope Ozone, FabFilter Pro-MB, Sonnox Oxford series).
  • Experience with analog audio equipment and signal processing.
  • Knowledge of various audio codecs, delivery specifications (e.g., DDP, MFiT), and loudness standards (e.g., LUFS).
  • Previous experience in a studio environment (even amateur or home studio).
