Key Responsibilities

  • Assist chefs and cooks with food preparation, including washing, peeling, chopping vegetables, preparing ingredients, and portioning items as per instructions.
  • Maintain the highest standards of kitchen cleanliness and hygiene, including washing dishes, sanitizing workstations, cleaning kitchen equipment (ovens, stoves, fridges), and ensuring floors are clean and dry.
  • Support inventory management by receiving and inspecting deliveries, organizing storage areas (pantries, refrigerators, freezers), and monitoring stock levels to minimize waste.
  • Ensure all food safety standards and regulations are strictly adhered to, immediately reporting any potential hazards or breaches to the kitchen supervisor.
  • Assist in setting up and breaking down kitchen stations efficiently before and after service hours, ensuring all tools and equipment are ready for use or properly stored.
  • Properly and efficiently dispose of waste, including general waste and food scraps, in accordance with environmental and health guidelines.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.
  • Perform other ad-hoc duties as assigned by the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager to ensure smooth kitchen operations and support the overall culinary team.

Required Skills

  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure kitchen environment.
  • Strong understanding of kitchen hygiene practices and basic food safety principles.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective team collaboration.
  • Demonstrated physical stamina to stand for long periods, lift and carry moderately heavy items (up to 20kg), and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong, dedicated work ethic and a proactive approach to tasks.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and meticulously from senior kitchen staff.
  • A positive attitude and a willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a kitchen or hospitality setting, even if it's part-time, voluntary, or informal.
  • Basic knowledge of culinary techniques and kitchen equipment operation.
  • Possession of a valid food handler's permit or a certificate in hygiene, or a willingness to obtain one shortly after employment.
