Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor Health & Safety (H&S) policies and procedures in accordance with Kenyan legislation and best practices.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments across various operational sites within Baringo County to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports and implementing preventative measures to avoid recurrence.
  • Organize and deliver comprehensive H&S training programs for employees at all levels.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory bodies and legal requirements, including OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) and WIBA (Work Injury Benefits Act).
  • Maintain accurate records of H&S incidents, inspections, training, and certifications.
  • Advise management on H&S improvements, emerging risks, and compliance updates.
  • Lead the development and implementation of emergency response plans and drills.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through awareness campaigns and continuous engagement with staff.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Safety Officer or in a similar H&S role (minimum 3 years).
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Kenyan Occupational Safety and Health legislation and regulations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Proficiency in delivering engaging and effective safety training.
  • Certified in First Aid and Fire Safety.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) or IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) certification.
  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in specific Baringo County industries such as agriculture, light manufacturing, or infrastructure development.
  • Professional membership with a relevant safety and health body in Kenya.
