Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor Health & Safety (H&S) policies and procedures in accordance with Kenyan legislation and best practices.
- Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments across various operational sites within Baringo County to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports and implementing preventative measures to avoid recurrence.
- Organize and deliver comprehensive H&S training programs for employees at all levels.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory bodies and legal requirements, including OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) and WIBA (Work Injury Benefits Act).
- Maintain accurate records of H&S incidents, inspections, training, and certifications.
- Advise management on H&S improvements, emerging risks, and compliance updates.
- Lead the development and implementation of emergency response plans and drills.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through awareness campaigns and continuous engagement with staff.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Safety Officer or in a similar H&S role (minimum 3 years).
- Strong knowledge and understanding of Kenyan Occupational Safety and Health legislation and regulations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Proficiency in delivering engaging and effective safety training.
- Certified in First Aid and Fire Safety.
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) or IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) certification.
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in specific Baringo County industries such as agriculture, light manufacturing, or infrastructure development.
- Professional membership with a relevant safety and health body in Kenya.
