Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough community needs assessments and participatory rural appraisals to identify key development priorities.
  • Design, plan, and implement community development projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and community needs.
  • Mobilize, organize, and empower community groups, facilitating their active participation in project planning, execution, and monitoring.
  • Provide training and capacity building to community members, local leaders, and volunteers on various development themes, including livelihoods, health, and governance.
  • Establish and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships with local stakeholders, including government officials, community-based organizations (CBOs), and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
  • Monitor project progress, collect robust data, and prepare regular, detailed reports on activities, outputs, and outcomes.
  • Manage project budgets effectively, ensuring transparent financial management and compliance with organizational and donor guidelines.
  • Identify potential funding opportunities and contribute to the development of compelling grant proposals.
  • Promote cross-cultural understanding, ensure gender equality, and foster social inclusion across all program activities.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in community development, social work, or a related field, preferably in Kenya.
  • Strong project management and implementation skills, with a focus on results-based approaches.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and facilitation skills, capable of engaging diverse groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage, mobilize, and empower communities at the grassroots level.
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and comprehensive report writing.
  • Fluency in English and Swahili (both written and spoken). Knowledge of Ekegusii is a significant advantage.
  • Computer literacy, including advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • A valid motorcycle driving license and willingness to travel extensively within Kisii County.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Community Development, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience working with international development partners or donor-funded projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of the local culture, socio-economic context, and development challenges of Kisii County.
  • Experience in designing and implementing Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) frameworks.
  • Specific expertise in thematic areas such as Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), sustainable livelihoods, or health education.
