Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Part-Time Sound Editing Assistant to join our creative team in San Francisco. This is an incredible opportunity for an aspiring audio professional to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced and dynamic post-production environment. As a Sound Editing Assistant, you will play a crucial supporting role in the creation of captivating audio experiences for various media projects, including film, television, podcasts, and digital content. Your work will directly contribute to the final sonic quality of our productions, ensuring they meet the highest standards of excellence.

We are looking for someone with a genuine passion for sound, an eagerness to learn, and a keen ear for detail. You will be instrumental in organizing audio assets, preparing sessions for our lead sound designers, and executing preliminary edits under supervision. This role requires proficiency with industry-standard Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) and a foundational understanding of audio principles. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist lead sound editors and designers with project setup and organization within various DAWs (e.g., Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Reaper).
  • Import, log, and organize audio assets, including sound effects, dialogue, and music cues.
  • Perform initial clean-up of dialogue tracks, removing hums, clicks, and other unwanted noises.
  • Execute basic sound editing tasks such as syncing audio to picture, cutting, trimming, and crossfading audio clips.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, including cue sheets and sound reports.
  • Conduct quality control checks on edited audio for consistency and technical specifications.
  • Support the archiving of finished projects and management of audio libraries.
  • Research and source specific sound effects or music as required by project needs.
  • Provide general administrative support to the audio post-production team.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in at least one industry-standard Digital Audio Workstation (e.g., Pro Tools, Logic Pro X, Adobe Audition).
  • Basic understanding of audio editing principles and techniques.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • A genuine passion for sound and a keen ear.
  • Familiarity with macOS and/or Windows operating systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree/certificate in Audio Production, Film Production, Music Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience with sound design and mixing principles.
  • Knowledge of audio processing plugins and effects.
  • Basic understanding of video editing workflows and codecs.
  • Prior experience with library management systems for sound effects.
