As a Catering Assistant, you will be the backbone of our event operations, playing a crucial role in ensuring every guest enjoys a seamless and delightful culinary journey. Your day-to-day could involve anything from meticulously setting up dining areas with precision and aesthetic appeal, to assisting our talented chefs with basic food preparation and plating. You will be at the forefront of guest interaction, serving exquisite dishes and refreshing beverages with a friendly smile and impeccable service, always anticipating needs and responding promptly to requests. Maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and food safety throughout the event, from preparation to clear-down, will be paramount.
Beyond serving, you’ll be instrumental in the smooth flow of service, from restocking essentials to efficiently clearing tables and assisting with the breakdown and cleaning of event spaces. This role demands a proactive approach, an eagle eye for detail, and a commitment to teamwork. Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of event spaces, including arranging tables, chairs, and decorations.
- Support kitchen staff with basic food preparation, plating, and presentation.
- Serve food and beverages to guests in a professional and courteous manner.
- Clear tables, wash dishes, and ensure cleanliness and hygiene standards are maintained throughout the event.
- Restock supplies, manage inventory, and ensure all catering areas are well-organised.
- Interact positively with guests, responding to their needs and contributing to a positive dining experience.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and food hygiene regulations.
- Collaborate effectively with the event team, chefs, and other staff members to ensure smooth operations.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 6 months experience in a catering, hospitality, or customer service role.
- Valid Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 1 or 2) or willingness to obtain one prior to starting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work efficiently and calmly in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience specifically in event catering or banqueting.
- NVQ Level 1 or 2 in Hospitality, Food Service, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of dietary requirements and allergens.
- Full UK driving licence and access to transport for various event locations.
