Key Responsibilities
- Conceptualize and design new fashion collections and individual pieces, consistent with brand aesthetics and market trends.
- Conduct thorough market research on fashion trends, fabrics, colors, and design techniques relevant to target demographics.
- Develop detailed sketches, technical drawings, and specifications (tech packs) for garments, accessories, and collections.
- Source and select appropriate fabrics, trims, and embellishments, negotiating with suppliers as needed.
- Collaborate closely with pattern makers and sample room staff to oversee the development of prototypes and samples.
- Conduct fittings, make necessary adjustments, and ensure quality control throughout the sampling and production process.
- Prepare presentations of new designs and collections for internal review and potential buyers.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of sustainable fashion practices and incorporate them into design where feasible.
- Work cross-functionally with merchandising, production, and marketing teams to ensure seamless execution from concept to launch.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, adhering to design calendars and deadlines.
Required Skills
- Minimum 2 years of professional experience as a Fashion Designer or similar role.
- Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and CAD tools.
- Strong portfolio showcasing original design work, technical drawings, and creative process.
- Excellent understanding of garment construction, pattern making, and textile properties.
- Proven ability to identify and interpret fashion trends, translating them into commercial designs.
- Exceptional sketching and illustration skills, both freehand and digital.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective team collaboration.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Textile Design, or a related field.
- Experience with sustainable fashion practices and ethical sourcing.
- Knowledge of the Southern African fashion market and consumer preferences.
- Proficiency in additional languages relevant to our supply chain or market (e.g., Portuguese).
