Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive preventive maintenance on various fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Execute repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, and suspension components.
- Utilize diagnostic software and specialized tools to identify and resolve complex issues.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance, repair, and inspection activities.
- Ensure strict compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, and environmental standards.
- Manage and organize inventory of parts, tools, and supplies, initiating orders as needed.
- Collaborate effectively with drivers, dispatch, and the operations team to schedule and prioritize maintenance.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle roadworthiness and compliance.
- Respond to and perform emergency roadside repairs when necessary.
- Stay current with industry advancements, new technologies, and best practices in fleet maintenance.
- Contribute to a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
Required Skills
- Journeyman/Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic certification (or equivalent provincial certification)
- Minimum of 3 years of proven experience as a Fleet Maintenance Technician or Heavy Vehicle Mechanic
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing both diesel and gasoline engines
- Strong electrical and hydraulic system troubleshooting and repair skills
- Expertise in using diagnostic software and various testing equipment
- Valid Class 5 driver's license; Class 3 (or higher) with air brake endorsement preferred
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking abilities
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as a valued team member
- Meticulous attention to detail and unwavering commitment to safety standards
- Proficiency in French (oral and written); functional English is considered a strong asset
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with a diverse range of vehicle types, including light-duty, medium-duty, and specialized equipment
- ASE or equivalent industry-recognized certifications
- Familiarity with fleet management software and digital record-keeping systems
- Basic welding and fabrication skills
- Strong organizational and time management capabilities to handle multiple tasks efficiently
