Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Embedded Software Developer to join our client’s innovative engineering team in Wetherby, Leeds. Your day-to-day will involve working closely with hardware engineers to integrate software with new and existing hardware platforms, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security. You’ll be responsible for writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code in C/C++ for microcontrollers and microprocessors, often operating within resource-constrained environments. A deep understanding of real-time operating systems (RTOS) and bare-metal programming will be crucial for success in this role. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain embedded software for various hardware platforms using C/C++.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers to define software requirements and ensure seamless integration.
- Implement and debug firmware for microcontrollers and microprocessors.
- Work with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and develop bare-metal solutions when required.
- Develop and execute test plans for embedded software, including unit, integration, and system testing.
- Optimize code for performance, memory usage, and power consumption in resource-constrained environments.
- Participate in code reviews, contribute to architectural discussions, and provide technical guidance.
- Document software designs, specifications, and test procedures.
- Research and evaluate new technologies, tools, and techniques to improve development processes.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in C/C++ programming for embedded systems.
- Solid understanding of microcontroller/microprocessor architectures (e.g., ARM Cortex-M/R/A).
- Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) like FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or similar.
- Strong debugging skills using tools such as JTAG/SWD debuggers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers.
- Familiarity with communication protocols (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, Ethernet, USB).
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Ability to read and understand hardware schematics and datasheets.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with embedded Linux development.
- Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python) for automation and testing.
- Familiarity with wireless technologies (e.g., Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, LoRa).
- Experience with hardware abstraction layers (HALs) and device drivers.
