Key Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site inspections of agricultural facilities, farms, processing plants, and retail outlets.
- Verify compliance with provincial and federal regulations related to crop production, livestock health, food safety, environmental protection, and pest control.
- Collect samples of produce, soil, water, and other materials for laboratory analysis.
- Investigate complaints, outbreaks, or suspected non-compliance issues.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports, documenting findings, violations, and recommended corrective actions.
- Provide guidance and education to producers and stakeholders on regulatory requirements and best practices.
- Collaborate with other regulatory bodies, industry associations, and government agencies.
- Maintain accurate records and databases of inspections and enforcement actions.
- Stay updated on changes in agricultural legislation, scientific advancements, and industry trends.
- Participate in training programs and professional development to enhance expertise.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Science, Agronomy, Biology, Environmental Science, Food Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years (24 months) of experience in agricultural inspection, quality control, or a related regulatory role.
- Thorough knowledge of Canadian agricultural legislation, food safety standards (e.g., CFIA regulations), and environmental protection guidelines.
- Strong observational and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in French and English (bilingualism is highly valued in Quebec).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various challenging environments (e.g., farms, processing plants).
- Proficiency in using inspection tools, data collection software, and standard office applications.
- Valid Quebec driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
- Physical ability to perform duties that may involve walking, standing for extended periods, lifting, and working in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Certification as a Professional Agrologist (P.Ag.) or equivalent.
- Experience with specific agricultural sectors relevant to the Saguenay region (e.g., dairy, forestry, fruit/vegetable production).
- Knowledge of HACCP principles and implementation.
- Experience in conducting audits or risk assessments.
- Familiarity with local agricultural challenges and opportunities in Jonquière.
