Career.zycto is actively recruiting on behalf of a reputable automotive service centre in Iqaluit, Nunavut, for a dedicated and skilled Body Shop Technician. This is a unique opportunity to bring your expertise to a vibrant northern community, contributing significantly to the local automotive service industry. As a Body Shop Technician, you will be responsible for restoring vehicles to their pre-accident condition, ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. Your daily tasks will involve a comprehensive range of collision repair services, from minor dents and scratches to major structural damage. This role demands meticulous attention to detail, a strong understanding of vehicle mechanics and structural integrity, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Key aspects of the role include conducting thorough damage assessments, preparing detailed estimates, and executing repairs using a variety of tools and techniques. You will work with diverse materials, including metal, plastic, and composite, requiring proficiency in welding, sanding, filling, and painting. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive damage assessments and prepare accurate repair estimates.
  • Execute high-quality body repairs, including straightening frames, replacing panels, and filling dents.
  • Conduct welding, sanding, priming, and painting of vehicle components to match original factory finishes.
  • Utilize specialized tools and equipment safely and effectively for all repair procedures.
  • Ensure all repairs meet manufacturer specifications and industry safety standards.
  • Inspect repaired vehicles for quality control, addressing any imperfections or missed details.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with service advisors and parts department to ensure efficient workflow and customer satisfaction.
  • Document all repair work, materials used, and time spent accurately.
  • Stay updated with the latest automotive repair technologies and techniques through continuous learning.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Body Shop Technician or Collision Repair Specialist.
  • Proficiency in structural and non-structural repair techniques.
  • Skilled in welding (MIG/TIG), sanding, priming, and paint application.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive finishes and colour matching.
  • Ability to work with various vehicle materials (steel, aluminum, plastic, composites).
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret repair manuals and technical specifications.
  • Valid Class 5 (or equivalent) driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Red Seal certification in Automotive Body Repair or a related trade.
  • Experience with computer-based damage estimation software.
  • Familiarity with I-CAR training and certifications.
  • Experience working in a northern or remote environment.
  • Bilingualism (English and Inuktitut) is an asset.
