As an EMT, you will be the frontline hero, providing urgent pre-hospital medical care to patients in emergency situations, ranging from road accidents and traumatic injuries to acute medical emergencies like cardiac events, strokes, or severe respiratory distress. Your ability to assess rapidly, perform initial patient stabilization, administer basic life support interventions, and safely transport individuals to appropriate medical facilities will be paramount. This role demands not only a deep understanding of emergency medical procedures but also exceptional critical thinking, adaptability, resilience, and outstanding interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and empathetically with patients, their families, and other healthcare professionals, often under immense pressure.

You will operate within a dynamic and often unpredictable environment, frequently working independently or as part of a small, cohesive team. Responding to calls across various locations within Inharrime and its surrounding areas, you may encounter a wide spectrum of incidents, potentially including those in rural or remote settings. Your daily responsibilities will involve managing critical incidents, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), controlling severe bleeding, immobilizing fractures, administering oxygen therapy, and ensuring the psychological comfort and reassurance of patients during stressful times. Accurate and meticulous documentation of patient assessments, vital signs, interventions performed, and incident details is also a crucial aspect of the role, ensuring seamless continuity of care and compliance with medical protocols. Key Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to emergency calls and provide immediate pre-hospital medical care.
  • Assess patient conditions rapidly and accurately, identifying life-threatening issues.
  • Administer basic life support including CPR, defibrillation, and airway management.
  • Control external bleeding, immobilize fractures, and manage other traumatic injuries.
  • Administer oxygen, provide glucose, and assist patients with prescribed medications as authorized.
  • Safely extricate patients from hazardous environments and prepare them for transport.
  • Operate emergency vehicles safely and efficiently, transporting patients to medical facilities.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, bystanders, and medical staff.
  • Complete accurate and thorough patient care reports and incident documentation.
  • Maintain cleanliness and operational readiness of emergency equipment and vehicles.
  • Adhere strictly to medical protocols, safety regulations, and ethical standards.

Required Skills

  • Valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification in Mozambique or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in Basic Life Support (BLS) and pre-hospital emergency procedures.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift and move patients safely, often in challenging conditions.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Compassion, empathy, and a professional demeanor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in an emergency medical services (EMS) setting.
  • Familiarity with the geography and common health challenges of Inhambane Province.
  • Additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) a plus.
  • Fluency in Portuguese and basic proficiency in local languages (e.g., Gitonga, Chopi).
