Key Responsibilities

  • Assist kitchen staff with food preparation, including washing, peeling, chopping, and cutting ingredients as instructed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all kitchen areas, including workstations, equipment, and storage spaces, adhering to strict hygiene standards.
  • Operate and maintain dishwashing machinery, ensuring all dishes, utensils, and cookware are thoroughly cleaned, sanitized, and properly stored.
  • Properly store food items and supplies, ensuring adherence to health and safety regulations and effective inventory rotation (FIFO).
  • Assist with receiving and unpacking deliveries, verifying quantities and quality of goods, and transporting them to appropriate storage areas.
  • Remove trash and dispose of waste in designated areas, ensuring a tidy and sanitary kitchen environment throughout the shift.
  • Support cooks and chefs by retrieving necessary ingredients and equipment during service periods, anticipating needs.
  • Adhere strictly to all food safety and hygiene standards and regulations, participating in regular training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager to ensure smooth and efficient kitchen operations.

Required Skills

  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness, organization, and safety.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 lbs, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic are paramount.
  • Basic understanding of kitchen operations or a strong willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and efficiently from supervisors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous exposure to a kitchen environment, even from home cooking or volunteer work, is a plus.
  • Food Handler's Certificate (or willingness to obtain within the first month of employment).
  • Basic conversational French (an asset in Rimouski, Quebec) to communicate with team members.
