As a Welder, you will be instrumental in the fabrication and assembly of various metal components, working with both mild steel, stainless steel, and other materials. You will meticulously interpret engineering drawings and blueprints, ensuring dimensional accuracy and applying various welding techniques (MIG, TIG, Arc, or Stick) to produce robust, high-integrity, and visually appealing welds. Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret engineering blueprints, schematics, and other technical documents to plan welding operations.
- Perform various welding techniques including MIG, TIG, Arc, and Stick welding on a range of materials (mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium).
- Set up and operate welding equipment and machinery, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
- Inspect finished welds for quality, integrity, and adherence to specifications, using appropriate measuring tools.
- Clean, grind, and prepare surfaces to be welded, removing rust, scale, and other impurities.
- Operate fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, presses, and grinders, as needed.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Maintain welding equipment, performing minor repairs and preventative maintenance.
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to ensure project deadlines and quality standards are met.
- Identify and resolve issues related to welding processes or material defects.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Welder (MIG, TIG, Arc)
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints accurately
- Strong knowledge of welding processes, metallurgy, and material properties
- Proficiency in using a variety of welding tools and equipment
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work
- Strong understanding of health and safety procedures in a workshop environment
- Good physical stamina and manual dexterity
- Problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant NVQ Level 2/3 in Welding & Fabrication or equivalent certification.
- Experience with other fabrication machinery (e.g., press brake, guillotines).
- Forklift licence (desirable but not essential).
- Experience with stainless steel or exotic material welding.
- Valid CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) if applicable to projects.
