Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, inspect, and repair electrical systems, components, and equipment according to blueprints, schematics, and relevant electrical codes.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical malfunctions using appropriate testing devices (e.g., multimeters, ammeters, oscilloscopes).
- Perform preventative maintenance on electrical systems to ensure optimal performance and extend equipment lifespan.
- Conduct thorough safety checks and ensure all work adheres to occupational health and safety regulations.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and specifications.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other technicians to ensure project completion within timelines and budget.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on work performed, including parts used, time spent, and any issues encountered.
- Respond to emergency call-outs for electrical breakdowns and promptly resolve issues.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior technicians or apprentices when required.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in electrical installation, maintenance, and repair techniques.
- Strong understanding of national and local electrical codes (e.g., KEBS standards).
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Competency in using a wide range of electrical testing tools and equipment.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Commitment to safety procedures and practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Relevant certification from a reputable body (e.g., Energy Regulatory Commission – ERC electrical wireman/technician license).
- Experience with industrial control systems (PLCs, VFDs).
