Key Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, inspect, and repair electrical systems, components, and equipment according to blueprints, schematics, and relevant electrical codes.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical malfunctions using appropriate testing devices (e.g., multimeters, ammeters, oscilloscopes).
  • Perform preventative maintenance on electrical systems to ensure optimal performance and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Conduct thorough safety checks and ensure all work adheres to occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and specifications.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other technicians to ensure project completion within timelines and budget.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on work performed, including parts used, time spent, and any issues encountered.
  • Respond to emergency call-outs for electrical breakdowns and promptly resolve issues.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior technicians or apprentices when required.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in electrical installation, maintenance, and repair techniques.
  • Strong understanding of national and local electrical codes (e.g., KEBS standards).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Competency in using a wide range of electrical testing tools and equipment.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Commitment to safety procedures and practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Relevant certification from a reputable body (e.g., Energy Regulatory Commission – ERC electrical wireman/technician license).
  • Experience with industrial control systems (PLCs, VFDs).
  • Familiarity with renewable energy systems (solar, wind).
