Key Responsibilities
- Measure, cut, and install various types of drywall panels accurately on walls and ceilings according to blueprints and specifications.
- Apply tape and multiple coats of joint compound to seams, corners, and fastener heads, achieving smooth and seamless finishes.
- Sand drywall surfaces meticulously to prepare them for painting, texturing, or other finish applications.
- Inspect installed drywall for imperfections, making necessary repairs and adjustments to ensure a flawless surface.
- Adhere strictly to blueprints, architectural drawings, project specifications, and all relevant building codes and safety regulations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, diligently following all company safety protocols and site-specific guidelines.
- Collaborate effectively with other construction professionals, including carpenters, painters, and site managers, to ensure project synergy.
- Safely handle, transport, load, and unload drywall sheets and related materials, utilizing appropriate lifting techniques and equipment.
- Operate a variety of hand and power tools common to the drywall trade efficiently and safely, including saws, drills, and automatic taping tools.
- Perform basic framing adjustments or minor repairs as needed to ensure proper drywall installation and structural integrity.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Drywall Installer, Dryliner, or Drywall Finisher (minimum 2 years).
- Expertise in all stages of drywall installation, including measuring, cutting, hanging, taping, mudding, and sanding.
- Proficiency in advanced taping, mudding, and sanding techniques to achieve Level 4 or Level 5 finishes.
- Strong understanding of construction safety practices and ability to comply with health and safety regulations.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and precision in workmanship.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a steadfast commitment to high-quality results.
- Physical stamina and the ability to perform demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials (e.g., drywall sheets up to 50 lbs).
- Reliable transportation to various job sites across Shirley, Southampton, and surrounding areas.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid CSCS Card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) or equivalent certification.
- Completion of a formal apprenticeship or vocational training program in drywall installation or a related trade.
- Experience with various types of drywall, including moisture-resistant, fire-rated, sound-dampening, and impact-resistant boards.
- Familiarity with acoustic ceiling systems, suspended ceilings, and texture application techniques.
- Current First Aid certification.
- Previous experience working in a fast-paced, team-oriented construction environment on commercial projects.
- Proficiency with specialized drywall tools such as stilts, panel lifts, and automatic taper/finisher tools.
