Career.zycto is urgently seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Medical Officer to join our dedicated team in West Pokot County, Kenya. This is a pivotal role for an individual passionate about delivering essential healthcare services, particularly in a community-focused setting. As a Medical Officer, you will be at the forefront of patient care, diagnosing and treating a wide range of medical conditions, managing health programs, and contributing to public health initiatives that uplift the well-being of the local population. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive medical examinations, diagnose illnesses, and prescribe appropriate treatments.
- Manage and oversee patient care, including admissions, discharges, and follow-up appointments.
- Provide emergency medical services and critical care when required.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests (laboratory, imaging, etc.).
- Perform minor surgical procedures and other medical interventions as per scope of practice.
- Participate in community health outreach programs, health education, and disease prevention initiatives.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely patient medical records and reports.
- Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, nurses, and clinical officers.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and holistic patient management.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of health policies and protocols.
- Ensure adherence to medical ethics, professional standards, and relevant health regulations.
- Participate in continuous medical education and professional development activities.
Required Skills
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree from a recognized institution.
- Current registration and valid practicing license from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
- At least 3 years of post-internship clinical experience in a busy hospital or clinic setting.
- Proven ability to diagnose and manage a wide range of medical and surgical conditions.
- Strong clinical acumen and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse patient populations.
- Proficiency in basic life support and emergency medical procedures.
- High level of empathy, integrity, and professionalism.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Computer literacy, particularly with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a rural or community health setting.
- Additional training or certification in public health, family medicine, or emergency medicine.
- Familiarity with local health challenges and community engagement strategies in West Pokot.
- Proficiency in local languages spoken in West Pokot County (e.g., Pokot, Swahili).
