Job Description

Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly motivated and experienced Farm Supervisor to lead our agricultural operations in Nakuru. This is a critical, hands-on role where you will be instrumental in ensuring the efficient and productive management of our farm, encompassing all stages from land preparation to harvest and post-harvest handling. Your expertise will directly influence crop health, yield optimization, and the overall sustainability of our farming practices.

As Farm Supervisor, you will oversee the daily activities of farm staff, providing clear instructions, training, and leadership to foster a cohesive and high-performing team. You will be responsible for implementing comprehensive planting schedules, monitoring irrigation systems, executing effective pest and disease control strategies, and ensuring the timely and safe operation of farm machinery. Maintaining meticulous records of inputs, yields, labor hours, and equipment maintenance will be a key part of your role, contributing vital data for strategic planning and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage daily farm operations, including planting, cultivation, irrigation, pest control, and harvesting.
  • Supervise, train, and motivate farm workers, ensuring efficient task delegation and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Monitor crop health, identify potential issues (pests, diseases, nutrient deficiencies), and implement timely corrective actions.
  • Manage and maintain farm machinery and equipment, ensuring they are in good working order and operated safely.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed farm records, including production data, labor hours, inventory, and financial reports.
  • Implement and enforce health and safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment for all staff.
  • Optimize resource utilization, including water, fertilizers, and pesticides, to maximize yield and minimize environmental impact.
  • Assist in the development and execution of farm budgets and operational plans.
  • Collaborate with management to research and implement new agricultural technologies and sustainable farming practices.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in farm management or supervision.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of crop production cycles, pest management, and irrigation techniques relevant to Nakuru's climate.
  • Ability to operate and perform basic maintenance on farm machinery.
  • Excellent organizational and record-keeping abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving aptitude and ability to make informed decisions under pressure.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., MS Office) for record keeping.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, or a related field.
  • Experience with integrated pest management (IPM) and sustainable farming practices.
  • Certification in pesticide application or similar agricultural training.
  • Knowledge of local agricultural regulations and market demands.
  • Experience with diverse crop varieties cultivated in the region.
