Job Description
Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly motivated and experienced Safety Officer to join our team in Machakos, Machakos County. This is a critical role responsible for upholding the highest standards of occupational health and safety across our operations. As a Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in creating and maintaining a safe working environment, preventing accidents, and ensuring full compliance with all local and national safety regulations and company policies. You will be the go-to expert for all safety-related matters, driving a culture of vigilance and proactive risk management.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor occupational health and safety programs and policies.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
- Provide comprehensive safety training and inductions to employees and contractors on safety procedures, emergency protocols, and hazard awareness.
- Ensure strict adherence to all relevant local and national health and safety legislation (e.g., OSHA, WIBA) and company standards.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and risk assessments.
- Advise management on safety-related matters, including new equipment, processes, and regulatory changes.
- Prepare and present detailed safety reports and performance metrics.
- Lead emergency response planning, drills, and coordination efforts.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through awareness campaigns and continuous engagement with staff.
Required Skills
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- NEBOSH IGC or equivalent internationally recognized safety certification.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience as a Safety Officer or in a similar EHS role.
- In-depth knowledge of Kenyan occupational health and safety legislation and best practices.
- Proven ability to conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the construction, manufacturing, or heavy industry sectors.
- Advanced safety certifications (e.g., ISO 45001 Lead Auditor).
- Fluency in both English and Swahili.
- Experience with safety management systems and software.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
