As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be instrumental in ensuring the financial viability and contractual compliance of diverse construction projects, from inception through to completion. Your daily tasks will involve detailed cost analysis, accurate budgeting, robust procurement strategies, and precise valuation of works. You’ll work closely with project managers, clients, and contractors, providing expert advice on contractual matters, managing variations, and resolving disputes to protect project profitability and maintain strong stakeholder relationships. Key Responsibilities
- Manage all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from initial feasibility studies through to the final account.
- Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities, for contractors.
- Conduct detailed measurement and valuation of works, preparing interim valuations and final accounts.
- Perform risk and value management, and cost control during the entire project lifecycle.
- Advise on procurement strategy, contractual claims, and dispute resolution.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure project financial objectives are met.
- Produce regular financial reports and forecasts for project stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the UK construction industry.
- Strong understanding of construction contracts (e.g., JCT, NEC).
- Excellent cost management, budgeting, and financial reporting skills.
- Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, specialist QS software).
- Exceptional negotiation and communication abilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- RICS accreditation or working towards chartership.
- A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Experience with a variety of project types (residential, commercial, infrastructure).
- Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) processes.
