Key Responsibilities

  • Design, set up, operate, and dismantle complex audio systems for various productions including live events, studio sessions, and broadcasts.
  • Conduct thorough sound checks and optimize audio levels, equalization, and dynamics for optimal acoustic performance.
  • Operate and maintain a wide range of audio equipment, including digital and analog mixing consoles, microphones, playback systems, and recording devices.
  • Perform real-time sound mixing and monitoring during live performances and recordings, ensuring clarity and balance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical audio issues quickly and efficiently, often under high-pressure scenarios.
  • Collaborate effectively with producers, directors, performers, lighting technicians, and other crew members to achieve desired artistic outcomes.
  • Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and minor repairs on audio equipment to ensure peak operational readiness.
  • Provide creative input and expertise on sound design, audio effects, and overall sonic presentation.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, industry standards, and best practices related to audio production.
  • Manage inventory and ensure proper storage and transportation of audio equipment.

Required Skills

  • Extensive hands-on experience with both digital (e.g., Yamaha CL/QL, Midas Pro, Avid VENUE) and analog mixing consoles.
  • Profound understanding of microphone types, placement techniques, and wireless microphone systems.
  • Strong knowledge of signal flow, acoustic principles, and advanced audio processing techniques (compression, EQ, gates, reverb).
  • Proficiency in setting up and optimizing PA systems, stage monitors, and in-ear monitoring systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in live sound reinforcement and multi-track studio recording environments.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex audio issues swiftly.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills for effective collaboration.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro X, or Ableton Live.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant degree or professional certification in Audio Engineering, Sound Production, or a closely related technical field.
  • Experience with networked audio protocols (e.g., Dante, AVB, AES67) and associated hardware/software.
  • Familiarity with integration of audio systems with lighting and video production setups.
  • Proven experience in specific genres or production types (e.g., theatre, broadcast, corporate events, touring).
  • A valid UK driver's license with experience in driving relevant company vehicles for equipment transport.
