Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and meticulous Environmental Field Sampling Technician to join our growing team in Townsville, Queensland. This full-time role offers an exciting opportunity for an individual passionate about environmental science and committed to collecting high-quality field data. As an integral part of our project teams, you will be responsible for conducting various environmental monitoring activities, primarily in the field, across a diverse range of sites including industrial, commercial, and natural environments. You will play a crucial role in gathering accurate samples and measurements that underpin our environmental assessments, compliance monitoring, and remediation projects.

Your day-to-day will involve hands-on work in varied conditions, from coastal areas to inland sites, requiring a strong understanding of sampling protocols, safety procedures, and the ability to operate specialized equipment. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental sampling (water, soil, air, sediment, biota) in accordance with project-specific plans and Australian standards.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of field equipment, including GPS, pumps, meters, and monitoring devices.
  • Accurately record field data, observations, and sample chain-of-custody documentation.
  • Adhere strictly to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures.
  • Prepare samples for laboratory analysis, ensuring proper preservation and transportation.
  • Assist with data interpretation and report preparation under supervision.
  • Perform routine equipment calibration and maintenance to ensure data integrity.
  • Travel to various project sites across the Townsville region and potentially further afield.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of proven experience in environmental field sampling or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated understanding of relevant environmental sampling methodologies and Australian standards.
  • Current C-class driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong observational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Physical fitness suitable for outdoor work in varying weather conditions and uneven terrain.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Earth Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with GIS software or GPS data collection.
  • First Aid certification and/or other relevant safety certifications (e.g., White Card, 4WD training).
  • Proficiency in operating specialized field equipment (e.g., photo-ionisation detectors, water quality meters).
