Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, including risk assessments, for new and existing patients.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualised care plans in collaboration with patients, their families, and the multidisciplinary team.
- Administer prescribed medications safely and accurately, monitoring for side effects and ensuring adherence to treatment protocols.
- Provide therapeutic interventions, support, and education to patients and their families on mental health conditions and coping strategies.
- Manage crisis situations effectively, demonstrating sound clinical judgment and de-escalation techniques.
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to-date patient records in compliance with professional and organisational standards.
- Actively participate in ward rounds, team meetings, and supervision sessions to ensure coordinated care and professional development.
- Adhere to all relevant healthcare policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines, including those related to safeguarding and patient confidentiality.
- Contribute to a positive and therapeutic environment that promotes recovery and well-being.
Required Skills
- Valid NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) registration.
- Minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience in mental health nursing.
- Demonstrable clinical expertise in mental health assessment, care planning, and intervention.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse patient groups.
- Strong empathy, resilience, and a compassionate approach to patient care.
- Proven ability to manage challenging situations and implement effective crisis management techniques.
- Sound knowledge of relevant mental health legislation, policies, and best practices.
- Competency in maintaining accurate clinical records and using electronic patient systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Specialist qualification or advanced training in a specific area of mental health (e.g., CBT, DBT, addiction therapy).
- Experience working with diverse cultural backgrounds and an understanding of cultural sensitivities in mental health care.
- Previous experience supporting international patients or working in a diverse healthcare setting.
- Proficiency in an additional language relevant to the local population.
