Job Description
We are actively seeking experienced and highly skilled Freelance Project Translators to join our esteemed network of linguistic professionals. As a Freelance Project Translator with Lingua Franca Translations, you will play a crucial role in enabling clear and accurate communication across various languages and sectors. Our projects span a wide array of content, including but not limited to, legal documents, marketing collateral, technical manuals, medical reports, corporate communications, and digital content. The ideal candidate will be adept at understanding the nuances of different subject matters and tailoring their translations to resonate with the target audience while maintaining absolute fidelity to the source material. We value translators who are not only fluent in their language pairs but also possess a deep understanding of cultural contexts, ensuring that translations are not just linguistically correct but also culturally appropriate and impactful. Key Responsibilities
- Accurately translate a variety of documents and content types from source to target language, maintaining linguistic accuracy, cultural relevance, and stylistic consistency.
- Conduct thorough research and utilize appropriate terminology and glossaries to ensure the highest level of precision in specialized fields.
- Adhere strictly to project guidelines, client-specific instructions, and established deadlines.
- Utilize Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools (e.g., Trados, MemoQ) to ensure consistency and efficiency across projects.
- Review and proofread own translations to eliminate errors, grammatical mistakes, and awkward phrasing.
- Collaborate effectively with project managers and other team members, providing clear communication regarding project status and any challenges encountered.
- Continuously enhance linguistic skills and stay updated with industry trends and translation best practices.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and data security for all client materials.
Required Skills
- Native-level proficiency in at least one target language and exceptional fluency in at least one source language.
- Proven experience with professional translation in various subject matters.
- Proficiency in using leading CAT tools (e.g., SDL Trados Studio, MemoQ, Wordfast).
- Excellent written communication skills, grammar, and punctuation in both source and target languages.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality, accurate translations.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity relevant to the target audience.
- Reliable internet connection and access to necessary translation software and resources.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Translation, Linguistics, or a related field.
- Certification from a recognized translation association (e.g., SATI, ATA).
- Specialization in specific industries such as Legal, Medical, Technical, IT, or Marketing.
- Experience with translation memory (TM) and terminology management (TB) tools.
- Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the South African market.
- Demonstrable portfolio of completed translation projects.
