As a Sound/Lighting Technician Assistant, you will play a crucial supporting role in ensuring our events run flawlessly from a technical perspective. You’ll work closely alongside our experienced lead technicians, learning the ropes of professional event production firsthand, from initial equipment setup to the meticulous final breakdown. Your daily tasks will be diverse and hands-on, ranging from the safe handling and transportation of valuable audio and lighting equipment, to meticulously setting up cables, making precise connections, and assisting with the operation of soundboards and lighting consoles under expert guidance. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist lead technicians with the safe and efficient setup, operation, and breakdown of audio and lighting equipment for various events.
  • Perform essential tasks such as running and securing cables, making precise connections, and ensuring all components are properly installed.
  • Monitor sound and lighting equipment diligently during events, addressing minor technical issues promptly or reporting significant problems to the lead technician.
  • Help with basic troubleshooting of technical issues on-site, ensuring minimal disruption to event proceedings and maintaining a seamless experience.
  • Operate entry-level soundboards and lighting consoles under direct supervision during rehearsals and live events, contributing to the overall ambiance.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and proper storage of all audio and lighting equipment before, during, and after events.
  • Strictly adhere to all company safety protocols and industry standards to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and all personnel.
  • Collaborate effectively and communicate clearly with event organizers, clients, and other team members to achieve seamless event execution.
  • Participate in pre-event planning meetings to understand technical requirements and contribute to logistical preparations.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of audio and lighting principles and terminology, with an eagerness to learn more.
  • Physical ability to lift, carry, and move heavy equipment (up to 25kg) safely and efficiently.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong, proactive problem-solving capabilities.
  • High level of reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, fostering positive teamwork and client relations.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on event schedules.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English and/or Portuguese to effectively communicate with diverse teams and clients.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in dynamic, fast-paced event environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior hands-on experience (e.g., volunteer, internship, freelance) in live events, theater production, or audiovisual services.
  • Completion of a technical certification or vocational training in sound engineering, lighting design, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with various audio mixing consoles (e.g., Behringer, Yamaha, Allen & Heath) and their basic functions.
  • Working knowledge of DMX lighting control systems and intelligent lighting fixtures.
  • A valid Mozambican driving license and access to reliable transportation for equipment logistics.
