As a Bricklayer, you will play a crucial role in constructing and repairing walls, foundations, partitions, arches, and other structures. Your expertise will be vital in interpreting blueprints and technical drawings, mixing mortar, and carefully laying bricks, blocks, and other building materials. Key Responsibilities
- Lay bricks, blocks, and other construction materials to construct or repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches, and other structures.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout and dimensions.
- Mix mortar, concrete, and other compounds according to specific instructions.
- Cut and trim bricks and blocks to size using hand and power tools.
- Check vertical and horizontal alignment of courses using plumb-bobs, levels, and straightedges.
- Fill expansion joints with appropriate caulking materials.
- Clean and prepare construction sites, ensuring adherence to health and safety regulations.
- Collaborate effectively with other construction professionals, including foremen, carpenters, and labourers.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working order.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Bricklayer on various construction sites.
- Proficiency in laying bricks, blocks, and other masonry materials.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Strong understanding of mortar mixing ratios and application techniques.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Knowledge of relevant health and safety procedures and regulations.
- Reliability and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification in Bricklaying.
- CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
- Experience with different types of masonry work (e.g., stone, blockwork).
- Full UK driving licence and access to transport.
