Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and experienced Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) to join our esteemed client’s team in Trenton, New Glasgow. This is a pivotal full-time role for a highly motivated and compassionate healthcare professional committed to promoting a safe and healthy work environment. In this dynamic role, you will apply your comprehensive nursing knowledge to occupational health practices, focusing intensely on injury and illness prevention, meticulous health surveillance, and effective case management for both work-related and non-work-related absences. You will serve as a key resource and trusted advisor, providing expert advice on health and safety matters, ensuring strict compliance with provincial and federal Occupational Health and Safety legislation, and developing impactful health promotion and wellness initiatives tailored to our diverse employee population. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive health assessments, including pre-employment, periodic, and return-to-work evaluations.
- Manage and coordinate WCB/Worker's Compensation Board claims, short-term and long-term disability cases, and return-to-work programs.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate health promotion and wellness programs for employees.
- Provide immediate first aid and emergency medical response for workplace incidents and illnesses.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date medical records and documentation.
- Advise management and employees on occupational health and safety regulations, policies, and best practices.
- Conduct workplace health surveillance and monitor employee exposures to potential hazards.
- Participate in incident investigations, identify root causes, and recommend preventative measures.
- Collaborate with HR, management, safety officers, and external healthcare providers to ensure holistic employee support.
- Stay current with occupational health nursing practices, legislation, and industry trends through continuous professional development.
Required Skills
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nova Scotia.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in occupational health nursing or a related industrial health setting.
- Demonstrated strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Thorough knowledge of Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) legislation and regulations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and consultation skills.
- Proficiency in using electronic medical records and standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Occupational Health Nursing (COHN(C)) or working towards certification.
- Experience in case management for disability and WCB claims.
- Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and/or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or heavy industry environment.
- Formal training in audiometry, spirometry, or phlebotomy.
