Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Stagehand to join our team, providing essential technical and logistical support for a wide array of live theatre productions and music concerts across Heswall and the greater Liverpool area. You will be involved in all aspects of production setup and breakdown, from the initial load-in to the final strike. This includes the careful handling and precise placement of stage scenery, props, and backdrops according to technical specifications and design plans. Your responsibilities will extend to assisting with the setup, operation, and maintenance of lighting fixtures, sound equipment, and video projections, ensuring all technical elements are functioning flawlessly before, during, and after performances. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the safe and efficient load-in and load-out of equipment, sets, and props for theatre productions and concerts.
  • Execute precise stage changes, scene shifts, and prop placement during live performances.
  • Support the setup, focusing, and operation of lighting instruments, including conventional and intelligent fixtures.
  • Aid in the installation and configuration of sound reinforcement systems, microphones, and audio playback equipment.
  • Handle and operate stage rigging systems, ensuring all elements are secure and functioning correctly.
  • Perform general stage maintenance and repairs as needed to ensure operational readiness.
  • Work closely with technical directors, stage managers, and other crew members to achieve artistic and technical goals.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety guidelines, including safe working at height and manual handling procedures.
  • Operate follow spots, projectors, and other specialized equipment during shows.
  • Prepare and maintain work areas, ensuring cleanliness and organization backstage.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of proven experience in a stagehand, production assistant, or similar role in live events or theatre.
  • Fundamental understanding of stage terminology and basic technical theatre practices.
  • Proficiency in safe lifting techniques and manual handling of heavy equipment and scenic elements.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a diverse team.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and capacity to adapt to last-minute changes.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Physical fitness and stamina to perform demanding tasks, including standing for long periods and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by production schedules.
  • Strong commitment to safety protocols and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications in rigging, working at height, or electrical safety.
  • Experience with various types of theatrical lighting consoles and sound desks.
  • Basic knowledge of carpentry, set construction, or scenic art.
  • Familiarity with DMX, Art-Net, or other common theatre networking protocols.
  • Experience operating forklifts, scissor lifts, or other heavy machinery (with certification).
