Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and proactive Hotel Night Porter to become a vital part of our team in Wolverhampton. This pivotal role ensures the smooth and secure operation of our hotel during the night, offering an essential service to our guests and supporting the overall guest experience. As a Night Porter, you will be the primary point of contact for guests during the night shift, responsible for managing arrivals and departures, handling inquiries, and addressing any immediate needs or concerns that may arise. Your presence provides a sense of security and reassurance, making sure our guests feel safe and well-cared for around the clock.

Beyond front-facing guest services, the Night Porter role encompasses a variety of critical operational tasks. This includes conducting regular security checks of the premises, monitoring CCTV systems, and ensuring all common areas are clean and presentable for the morning rush. You’ll also be instrumental in performing night audit procedures, reconciling daily transactions, and preparing reports for the morning management team. Attention to detail and accuracy in these tasks is paramount. Furthermore, you will assist with the setup of breakfast areas, respond to fire alarms and emergencies following established protocols, and maintain a calm and professional demeanor under pressure. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage late guest arrivals and early departures efficiently, ensuring a smooth check-in/check-out process.
  • Handle all guest inquiries, requests, and complaints with professionalism and a proactive, problem-solving approach.
  • Conduct regular security patrols of the hotel premises, including all floors, public areas, and external entrances.
  • Monitor CCTV systems and respond promptly to any suspicious activity or alarms.
  • Perform night audit duties, including balancing daily accounts, processing payments, and generating daily reports.
  • Prepare the hotel for the morning shift, including light cleaning tasks in public areas and setting up the breakfast room.
  • Respond to emergency situations such as fire alarms, medical incidents, or security breaches according to established procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of guest activities, incidents, and any maintenance issues.
  • Ensure all hotel policies and procedures are adhered to, especially concerning guest safety and security.
  • Provide information about local attractions and services when requested by guests.

Required Skills

  • Previous experience in a hotel front office or similar customer service role, preferably in a night shift environment.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse guests and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle cash and card transactions accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, particularly for night audit tasks.
  • Reliable, punctual, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with hotel property management systems (PMS).
  • A proactive attitude and the ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • First Aid certification.
  • Security Guard license (SIA Licence).
  • Experience with Opera PMS or similar hotel management software.
  • Knowledge of local Wolverhampton area and attractions.
  • Ability to speak multiple languages is a plus.
