As a Rehab Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting our licensed therapists (Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists) in delivering high-quality, patient-centered rehabilitation services. You will work directly with patients under the direct supervision of licensed professionals, assisting them with therapeutic exercises, mobility training, and activities of daily living. Key Responsibilities
- Assist licensed therapists (Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists) with treatment implementation and patient care.
- Prepare treatment areas and equipment for patient sessions, ensuring cleanliness and safety protocols are followed.
- Guide patients through therapeutic exercises and activities as directed by the supervising therapist.
- Monitor and report on patient progress, challenges, and any changes in condition to the supervising therapist.
- Assist patients with transfers, mobility, and ambulation, ensuring proper body mechanics and safety.
- Provide support with activities of daily living (ADLs) as required.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation as instructed by therapists.
- Organize and maintain rehabilitation equipment and supplies.
- Foster a positive, encouraging, and supportive environment for patients and their families.
- Adhere to all facility policies, procedures, and relevant healthcare regulations.
Required Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
- High degree of empathy, patience, and compassion.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work effectively as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Physical stamina and ability to assist with patient transfers and mobility (e.g., lifting, pushing, pulling).
- Proficiency in basic computer applications for documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., Kinesiology, Health Sciences, Personal Support Worker Certificate, Occupational Therapist Assistant/Physiotherapist Assistant Diploma).
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Volunteer or paid experience in a healthcare or rehabilitation setting.
- Familiarity with rehabilitation equipment and modalities.
- Multilingualism is considered an asset.
