Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly motivated, community-oriented Bylaw Officer to join our dedicated team in Parkdale, Toronto. Your day-to-day will involve a variety of duties, from responding promptly and professionally to citizen complaints regarding property standards, noise, waste management, parking, and animal control, to conducting proactive patrols and inspections. You will be responsible for investigating alleged infractions, meticulously gathering evidence, documenting findings, and preparing detailed reports. Where necessary, you will issue warnings, notices of contravention, and charges in accordance with established policies and procedures. Effective and empathetic communication is paramount; you will interact frequently with the public, explaining complex bylaws clearly, mediating disputes fairly, and de-escalating potentially tense situations with professionalism, tact, and respect.

Key Responsibilities
- Investigate alleged bylaw infractions (e.g., property standards, noise, waste, parking, animal control).
- Respond efficiently and professionally to citizen complaints and inquiries.
- Conduct proactive patrols and inspections within the designated Parkdale area.
- Gather evidence, document findings thoroughly, and prepare comprehensive incident reports.
- Issue warnings, notices of contravention, and charges in compliance with municipal policies and procedures.
- Educate residents and businesses on municipal bylaws and promote voluntary compliance.
- Mediate disputes and de-escalate confrontational situations with tact and professionalism.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external agencies (e.g., police, animal services) as required.
- Represent Career.zycto with integrity and professionalism at all times.
- Maintain accurate records and case files for all investigations and enforcement actions.
- Attend court or tribunal hearings to present evidence as an expert witness when required.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of municipal bylaws and enforcement procedures (e.g., Toronto Municipal Code).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for public interaction and report writing.
- Proven conflict resolution, negotiation, and de-escalation abilities.
- Strong observational, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports and documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a cohesive team.
- Physical ability to perform duties, including extended periods of walking, standing, and occasional lifting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education (diploma or degree) in Law Enforcement, Criminology, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Certification in Municipal Law Enforcement (MLEO).
- Previous experience with case management software or enforcement databases.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Bilingualism or multilingualism is an asset (e.g., French, Mandarin, Punjabi, Tagalog).
