Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily feeding and watering of hogs according to established schedules and protocols.
- Monitor animal health and welfare, reporting any signs of illness or injury to supervisors.
- Clean and sanitize pens, feeders, and water lines to maintain a hygienic barn environment.
- Assist with moving hogs between pens, ensuring calm and safe handling practices.
- Support breeding, farrowing, and weaning processes as directed.
- Perform general maintenance and minor repairs within the barn facility.
- Adhere strictly to biosecurity protocols to prevent disease transmission.
- Operate farm equipment safely and efficiently after proper training (e.g., pressure washers, feed carts).
- Maintain accurate records of feed consumption, animal movements, and treatments.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to ensure smooth barn operations.
- Follow all safety guidelines and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
Required Skills
- No prior experience required; comprehensive training provided.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in an agricultural environment with animals and typical barn conditions (e.g., dust, odors).
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work effectively within a team.
- Excellent observational skills for monitoring animal health.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Punctuality and commitment to regular attendance.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic understanding of animal welfare principles.
- Previous experience in a manual labour role.
- Valid G Class Driver's License (asset, but not required).
