Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and evaluate complex insurance applications, identifying potential risks and ensuring adherence to established underwriting guidelines and company policies.
  • Analyze financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant data to determine risk acceptability and appropriate pricing.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and clients, providing expert advice and clear communication on underwriting decisions.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions of coverage within designated authority levels, striving for profitable growth and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with sales, claims, and actuarial departments to ensure a comprehensive and aligned approach to risk management and client service.
  • Monitor market trends, industry developments, and competitive landscapes to inform underwriting strategies and product enhancements.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of underwriting processes, tools, and guidelines.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced underwriters, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal controls.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as a professional Underwriter, preferably within commercial lines or a related financial sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex financial data and make sound underwriting decisions.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in risk assessment methodologies and principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of insurance products, policy forms, and industry regulations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with underwriting software and standard office applications (MS Office Suite).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional designations such as CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) or ARe (Associate in Reinsurance).
  • Experience underwriting a diverse range of industries or specialized risk classes.
  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Familiarity with the Arkansas insurance market and regulatory environment.
