Career.zycto is urgently seeking diligent and safety-conscious Transit Operators to enhance the public transportation network in Midtown, Sacramento. As a Transit Operator, you will be the face of public transport, directly contributing to the daily lives of countless residents and visitors by providing a critical service.
Your primary responsibility will involve operating transit vehicles (buses or light rail, depending on assignment) along designated routes, strictly adhering to schedules and traffic regulations. A deep commitment to passenger safety is paramount, requiring constant vigilance and adherence to all operational protocols. You will be responsible for ensuring the comfort and well-being of all passengers, assisting with accessibility needs, and maintaining a professional demeanor at all times. Daily tasks will include conducting thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of your assigned vehicle, meticulously checking essential components, fluid levels, and safety features. You will be responsible for collecting fares, issuing transfers, and accurately reporting any mechanical defects, incidents, or passenger concerns. Effective communication is key, as you will interact with diverse passengers, providing information on routes, schedules, and points of interest, as well as coordinating with dispatch and other transit personnel. Maintaining a clean and orderly vehicle interior is also an expectation, contributing to a pleasant experience for everyone aboard.

Key Responsibilities
- Operate transit vehicles (buses/light rail) safely and efficiently along assigned routes and schedules.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections, identifying and reporting any mechanical defects or issues.
- Ensure passenger safety and comfort, including assisting individuals with disabilities and maintaining a calm onboard environment.
- Collect fares, issue transfers, and accurately manage passenger documentation.
- Communicate effectively with passengers, providing route information, answering questions, and addressing concerns professionally.
- Maintain a clean and orderly vehicle interior, promoting a positive rider experience.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations.
- Report all accidents, incidents, and delays promptly to dispatch or supervisors.
Required Skills
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) endorsement and Air Brake restriction removed.
- Clean driving record for the past 3-5 years, free of major violations.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, with a patient and professional demeanor.
- Strong understanding of traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Physical ability to operate large vehicles, including sitting for extended periods and occasional lifting/pushing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of professional driving experience (e.g., bus, truck, commercial vehicle).
- Previous experience as a Transit Operator or in a similar public service role.
- Knowledge of Sacramento area roadways and public transit routes.
- Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish) is a plus.
