Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Heavy Equipment Operator with expertise in operating forklifts and loaders to join our dynamic logistics team in Ébène, Mauritius. Key Responsibilities
- Operate forklifts (e.g., counterbalance, reach trucks) and loaders (e.g., skid-steer loaders, wheel loaders) safely and efficiently to move, stack, load, and unload materials and products.
- Conduct thorough pre-shift inspections of equipment, including fluid levels, tire pressure, lights, brakes, and safety devices, reporting any faults or maintenance requirements promptly.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and traffic management plans, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Assist in the accurate reception, storage, and dispatch of goods, ensuring correct inventory placement and documentation.
- Maneuver equipment in tight spaces and congested areas, demonstrating precision and control to prevent damage to goods or property.
- Collaborate with warehouse staff, supervisors, and other operators to coordinate material movement and optimize workflow.
- Perform minor routine maintenance and cleaning of assigned equipment to ensure its longevity and operational readiness.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including the immediate vicinity around heavy equipment.
- Actively participate in safety meetings and training programs to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Report all incidents, accidents, or near misses immediately to supervision.
Required Skills
- Valid Heavy Equipment Operator’s License (specific to forklift and loader operation in Mauritius)
- Proven experience operating various types of forklifts and loaders in a warehouse or industrial setting.
- Strong understanding of heavy equipment safety procedures and regulations.
- Excellent spatial awareness and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to perform pre-operational checks and identify mechanical issues.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for minor maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Physical fitness and ability to work in various weather conditions and lift heavy objects when required.
- Effective communication skills and ability to follow instructions precisely.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant vocational training or certification in heavy equipment operation.
- At least 3 years of continuous experience in a similar role within logistics, manufacturing, or construction.
- First Aid certification.
- Experience with inventory management systems or handheld scanning devices.
- Knowledge of warehousing and logistics best practices.
