Job Description

Bindura University of Science Education is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Part-Time Library Assistant to join our dynamic library team. In this role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth daily operation of our university library, providing essential support to students, faculty, and researchers. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist library patrons with locating materials, using library systems, and basic reference inquiries.
  • Manage the circulation desk, including checking books in and out, processing new registrations, and handling overdue notices.
  • Accurately shelve and re-shelve library materials according to classification systems (e.g., Dewey Decimal, Library of Congress).
  • Maintain the neatness and orderliness of library shelves, reading areas, and common spaces.
  • Perform data entry and update library records using the library management system.
  • Assist with the processing of new acquisitions, including stamping, labeling, and barcoding materials.
  • Support inventory management and stocktaking processes.
  • Assist with interlibrary loan requests and document delivery services.
  • Troubleshoot basic issues with library equipment such as printers, photocopiers, and public computers.
  • Participate in library outreach programs and special events as required.
  • Adhere to all library policies and procedures, ensuring a safe and productive environment.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5 O-Level passes including English Language and Mathematics.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, internet browsers).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A genuine interest in library services and supporting an academic environment.
  • Physical ability to lift and move library materials, and stand/walk for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Certificate or Diploma in Library and Information Science or a related field.
  • Previous experience working in a library, educational institution, or customer service role.
  • Familiarity with library management systems (e.g., KOHA, Libwin).
  • Knowledge of common library classification systems (Dewey Decimal, Library of Congress).
