As an Academic Counselor, you will serve as a primary point of contact for students, offering expert advice on academic policies, degree requirements, and opportunities for professional growth. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive academic advising and career counseling to students, both individually and in group settings.
  • Assist students in developing personalized academic plans, including course selection, major/minor declarations, and degree progression.
  • Monitor student academic progress, identify at-risk students, and implement proactive intervention strategies.
  • Conduct workshops and presentations on topics such as study skills, time management, stress reduction, and career exploration.
  • Interpret and explain academic policies, procedures, and graduation requirements to students.
  • Liaise with faculty, administration, and external support services to advocate for student needs and facilitate appropriate referrals.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records, counseling notes, and generate reports as required.
  • Stay current with educational trends, career opportunities, and best practices in academic counseling.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Education, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in academic advising, career counseling, or student support services.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to build rapport with diverse student populations.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach to student guidance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with student information systems (SIS).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Educational Leadership, or a closely related discipline.
  • Familiarity with the Kenyan education system and local career landscape.
  • Experience in developing and delivering engaging presentations or workshops.
