Job Description
Are you a highly organized, meticulous, and professional individual with a passion for the legal field? Mwashighadi & Co. Advocates is seeking an experienced Advocate Assistant to join our dedicated team in Kwale County. This pivotal role involves providing comprehensive support to our advocates, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of legal proceedings and client management. You will be instrumental in conducting legal research, preparing documents, managing case files, and interacting directly with clients under the supervision of senior legal counsel. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough legal research on various legal issues, precedents, and statutes, providing concise summaries to advocates.
- Draft and prepare a variety of legal documents, including pleadings, affidavits, contracts, and correspondence, ensuring accuracy and adherence to legal standards.
- Manage and organize physical and electronic case files, maintaining meticulous records and ensuring all documentation is up-to-date and easily accessible.
- Assist in client intake processes, scheduling appointments, preparing meeting agendas, and maintaining regular communication with clients to provide updates on their cases.
- Liaise with court registries, government agencies, and other external parties to file documents, follow up on processes, and gather necessary information.
- Prepare bundles of documents for court hearings, mediations, and client meetings, ensuring all materials are complete and properly paginated.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all client information and firm matters, adhering to professional ethical guidelines.
- Perform general administrative duties such as scheduling, photocopying, scanning, and managing office supplies to support overall office operations.
Required Skills
- Diploma in Law or Legal Studies from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience as a Legal Assistant or Advocate Assistant in a reputable law firm.
- Excellent legal research and writing skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal database software.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities with a keen eye for detail.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Demonstrated integrity and discretion in handling confidential information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB).
- Familiarity with the Kenyan legal system and court procedures specific to Kwale County.
- Experience with case management software.
- Fluency in Swahili and English.
