Job Description

Join Career.zycto as a dedicated Agriculture Officer and play a pivotal role in advancing sustainable agricultural practices within Syokimau and beyond. We are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable individual to contribute to our mission of enhancing food security, improving crop yields, and promoting environmentally sound farming methods. This role requires a hands-on approach, combining field work with strategic planning and community engagement.

As an Agriculture Officer, you will be instrumental in implementing and overseeing agricultural projects, conducting research, and providing expert advice to local farmers and stakeholders. Your responsibilities will span across various aspects of crop production, soil health management, pest control, and post-harvest handling. You will collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure project success and the adoption of best practices. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and monitor agricultural projects focused on crop production, livestock management, and agribusiness development.
  • Provide technical advice and training to farmers on best agricultural practices, including crop rotation, soil conservation, irrigation techniques, and pest/disease management.
  • Conduct field visits to assess project progress, identify challenges, and provide on-site solutions and support.
  • Collect and analyze agricultural data to inform decision-making, evaluate project impact, and report findings.
  • Facilitate farmer field schools, workshops, and demonstration plots to disseminate knowledge and promote technology adoption.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local farming communities, government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist in the preparation of project proposals, budgets, and reports for internal and external audiences.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends, technologies, and research in the agricultural sector.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Sciences, Crop Science, Horticulture, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in agricultural project management, extension services, or research.
  • Proven knowledge of crop production cycles, soil science, pest and disease management, and sustainable farming practices relevant to Kenya.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of developing practical solutions to agricultural challenges.
  • Proficiency in data collection and basic report writing.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high level of initiative and responsibility.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel frequently within the project areas.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant agricultural discipline.
  • Experience with GIS tools for agricultural mapping and analysis.
  • Familiarity with local agricultural policies and market dynamics in Kenya.
  • Proficiency in local languages spoken in Syokimau and surrounding areas.
