Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Anesthesiologist in the development and implementation of anesthesia care plans.
  • Perform pre-anesthetic assessments and gather relevant patient medical history.
  • Monitor physiological parameters of patients during anesthesia, including ECG, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and end-tidal CO2.
  • Administer anesthetic agents, adjuncts, and supportive drugs under the direct supervision of the Anesthesiologist.
  • Initiate and manage airway management techniques, including intubation and ventilation.
  • Prepare and maintain anesthesia equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
  • Assist with the insertion of invasive monitoring lines (e.g., arterial lines, central venous lines).
  • Manage fluid and blood product administration during surgical procedures.
  • Provide post-anesthetic care, including monitoring recovery and managing pain.
  • Document all aspects of anesthesia care accurately and comprehensively.
  • Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.

Required Skills

  • Graduate of an accredited Anesthesiologist Assistant program.
  • Current certification/licensure as an Anesthesiologist Assistant in Manitoba (or eligibility for licensure).
  • Proficiency in advanced airway management techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of pharmacological agents used in anesthesia.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety and evidence-based practice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Anesthesiologist Assistant studies.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Previous experience in a diverse surgical setting (e.g., cardiac, neuro, trauma).
